Orangutan Island
ANIMAL PLANET FORGES NEW GROUND TO WITNESS THE BIRTH OF A FLEDGLING JUNGLE SOCIETY ON ORANGUTAN ISLAND
– Animal Planet’s Newest Docudrama premieres Friday, November 2, at 9 PM (ET/PT) –
(Silver Spring, MD) – A desperate struggle for survival is raging in the heart of Borneo’s forests. Illegal logging rapidly is destroying the orangutans’ last home in the wild, leaving hundreds of orangutan babies orphaned and homeless. The future appears bleak for the red-haired “people of the forest,” who share 97% of our DNA. But a groundbreaking project offers a ray of hope that one of our closest relatives can be saved. Enter project pioneer and founder of the largest primate rescue project in the world, Lone Droscher-Nielsen. Thanks to the passion and perseverance of Lone and her team at B.O.S (Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation) project – the Nyaru Menteng Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, 35 young orangutans of Forest School 103 will get the chance to live wild on a protected, 100-acre island. Here, they will hone their survival skills with the hope that one day they can return to their natural habitat. On November 2, at 9 PM (ET/PT), for the first time on television, viewers can watch these normally solitary creatures battle for power and struggle to form their own society on ORANGUTAN ISLAND. Beginning November 9, the series will air regularly Fridays at 9 PM (ET/PT).
