Silver Spring, Maryland, June 22, 2008—SILVERDOCS presents I.O.U.S.A., which chronicles the history of the debt, examines how it got to its current level and its impact on the average American. David Walker, former Comptroller General of the US, serves as the film’s oracle and makes a strong case for changing our policies to address the debt. The film taps into many other people’s viewpoints, including Warren Buffett, Robert Rudin, Ron Paul, and Paul O’Neill.

10:15 a.m. Filmmakers Brett Rapkin and Erik Kesten present the World Premiere of HOLY LAND HARDBALL, an engaging account of one man's dream to bring America's pastime to the Middle East.

10:30 a.m. Lucia Gaja presents MY LIFE INSIDE, the tragic story of Rosa, a Mexican citizen living illegally in Texas, and addresses the contentious issue of illegal immigration and the pitfalls of the judicial system.

10:45 a.m. Co-Director Cristoph Schaub presents BIRD’S NEST: HERZOG AND DE MEURON IN CHINA. The film follows the design of the Olympic Stadium in Beijing and the metaphorical bridge the architects must build between two cultures, two architectural traditions, and two political systems.

12:30 p.m. Filmmaker Cheryl Furjanic presents the East Coast Premiere of SYNC OR SWIM, which takes us inside the selection and training of the 2004 U.S. synchronized swimming team to meet the athletes behind the performers.

12:45 p.m. SILVERDOCS presents Werner Herzog’s ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD, which documents Herzog’s travels to McMurdo Station on Antarctica as a guest of the National Science Foundation.

1:30 p.m.Filmmaker Eric Bergkraut presents the US Premiere of LETTER TO ANNA, which examines the life of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya and the 2006 assassination of reminded us that there is a high price for speaking truth to power.

3:00 p.m. Filmmaker Patrick Creadon presents I.O.U.S.A, a film from the producers of WORLDPLAY, documents the $9.3 trillion and growing national debt. A discussion will follow the film.

3:15 p.m. Co-directors Dawn Valadez and Kristi Guevara-Flanagan presents GOING ON 13, which documents the growth and challenges of four pre-teen girls of color in Oakland. Ariana Harris, one of the four girls will be in attendance.

4:00 p.m. Cynthia Lester presents MY MOTHER’S GARDEN, tells the story of Eugenia Lester, a hoarder whose mental illness has endangered her physical health and her relationship with her children.

5:15 p.m. Director Kief Davidson presents KASSIM THE DREAM, which tells the story of Kassim Ouma who defected from the rebel army in Uganda and began a new life in the U.S., quickly becoming a world champion boxer.

7:30 p.m. Filmmaker Margaret Brown presents ORDER OF MYTHS, a film juxtaposing two Mardi Gras celebrations, the popular New Orleans festival and the more traditional celebration in Mobile, Alabama.

8:15 p.m. SILVERDOCS presents STRANDED: I’VE COME FROM A PLANE THAT CRASHED ON THE MOUNTAINS, which tells the story of 16 survivors defying all odds and staying alive for 72 days, in what is one of the most extraordinary survival tales of all time.

8:15 p.m. SILVERDOCS present the North American premiere of HI MY NAME IS RYAN. The film examines 19-year-old alt-culture renaissance man Ryan Avery and his struggle to reconcile his two callings, religion and music.
