Silver Spring, Maryland, June 18, 2008—Filmmaker Patrick Reed presents TRIAGE: DR. JAMES ORBINSKI’S HUMANITARIAN DILEMMA. When most fled Rwanda, Dr. James Orbinski flew in. TRIAGE is a deeply personal film about the man at the center of the imperfect system that our world has devised to care for victims of our political failures. James Orbinski, 1999 Nobel Peace Prize winner on behalf of Doctors Without Borders will participate in a panel discussion after the film.

12:15 p.m.SILVERDOCS presents the US Premiere of SEAVIEW, which gives a poignant portrayal of the modern immigrant experience in a small resort town in Ireland. Filmmakers will attend the Friday screening.
1:30 p.m. SILVERDOCS presents a free showing of 4 LITTLE GIRLS as part of the Spike Lee Retrospective. The film examines the 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham and the victims claimed in the horrific event.
1:45 p.m. Filmmaker Suvi Andrea Helminen presents ON THE WAY TO PARADISE, which explores the lives of aging Danish couple Inge and Holge, as they move into the last apartment they will share.
2:00 p.m. SILVERDOCS broadcasts straight from the Newseum with NPR’s Talk of The Nation. The program will feature Alex Gibney, GONZO: THE LIFE AND WORK OF DR. HUNTER S. THOMPSON, Yung Chang, UP THE YANGTZE, and Ayat Najafi, FOOTBALL UNDER COVER. Moderated by NPR’s Talk of the Nation on-air host, Neal Conan.

4:15 p.m. SILVERDOCS presents LAW AND ORDER, by filmmaker Frederick Wiseman, as part of the “1968 and Beyond” strand. The film examines the Kansas City police department’s daily routine, with interactions that range from comedic and benign to undeniably bigoted and violent.
4:30 p.m. Chao Gan presents the World Premiere of THE RED RACE, a film chronicling the Chinese passion for gymnastics against the backdrop of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and escalating international condemnation over Chinese policies from Tibet to Darfur.
5:00 p.m. SILVERDOCS presents JOURNEY OF A RED FRIDGE follows a young Nepalese porter named Hari who straps a red Coca-Cola refrigerator on his back and treks through the Himalayas to get it repaired.
5:30 p.m. SILVERDOCS presents “Minor Difficulties,” a free showing of short films featuring THE FIRST DAY, KIDS + MONEY, and YOUNG ARABS.
