A Purple Heart recipient, Sergeant Rick Bolanos is running in the 23rd District of Texas against Republican incumbent Henry Bonilla. Rick Bolanos and his three brothers have the distinction of being the only four brothers to have served at the same time during the Vietnam War. Since their return from Vietnam, the Bolanos brothers have continued to fight for Veterans rights. “We lost 58,000 soldiers during Vietnam,” Bolanos said, “But what most people don’t realize is that we have lost 60,000 Vietnam vets to suicide. That is the same fate that awaits our Iraqi vets if we continue to abandon our troops once they’ve returned home from war.”
Bolanos, like many veterans, doesn’t have vast personal wealth and is personally funding most of his campaign because he refuses to accept special interest money. “There is a crisis of corruption in the hallowed halls of Congress, and our country is being prostituted to the highest bidder. It’s no longer about serving the common wealth; it’s about serving the corporate wealth. I plan on changing that.”
