Inventing History

Image 1 / 8

Keeping safe, warm, comfortable and entertained are such easy, common parts of our everyday lives that we often take them for granted. However, these universal needs were as necessary to the Neanderthals as they are to modern man. So how did our ancestors manage in the days before high tech security systems, central heating and flat screen televisions? In ‘Inventing History', presenter Ronald Top travels Europe, investigating the history of everyday concepts such as home entertainment, money, time, personal transport and furniture. Visiting an array of fascinating destinations including a Neolithic flint mine, a bed factory in Norway, a mint in Slovakia and a steam fair in England, Ronald explores the different methods used by our predecessors to fulfil common needs. He also takes a glimpse at the future, looking at the technology of tomorrow.
