This November sees the start of Discovery's new Heist strand (Fridays, 9.00pm). Dedicated to some of the most spectacular heists ever committed, the strand kicks off with Brink's-Mat Robbery which, marking its 25 year anniversary, documents Britain’s biggest ever heist; one that gripped the nation, shook the world gold market, and wrecked several lives.
On 26th November 1983, five armed robbers broke into the Brinks Mat warehouse near Heathrow, armed with guns, inside information, keys and a detailed knowledge of the security system. When they drove off just 90 minutes later they had acquired some £26 million in solid gold bars. So great was the haul that when the news broke the markets reacted accordingly. Directed by Bruce Goodison, this film, told through drama, documentary, and archive footage, provides a unique account of the robbery itself, and all its repercussions.
