Executive Producer, Animal Planet Media

Lucas joined Discovery Communications, Inc. in 2004 and has been an executive producer for FitTV, Discovery Health, TLC and Animal Planet.  At Animal Planet, she’s executive producer of a number of series, including DR JEFF:  ROCKY MOUNTAIN VET, LONE STAR LAW, TOO CUTE!, NORTH WOODS LAW, the popular PIT BULLS & PAROLEES, and RIVER MONSTERS, the network's best performing series ever.

Prior to joining Discovery Communications, Inc., Lucas was a freelance writer and producer from 1991-2004.  Her work was seen on affiliate news from New York to LA, and on networks including HGTV, Food Network, TLC and Animal Planet.

Lucas began her career in production in 1985 at Medstar Television, where she worked as a writer, producer and series producer. As a freelance producer, she earned two Emmys - the first for Outstanding Specialty News Report, Capitol Region for the syndicated news series Top of the Class, and the second for Outstanding Public Affairs Programming, Mid-Atlantic Region for Teacher TV. Lucas received a CableACE nomination for Outstanding Educational Series for her work on Teacher TV.  While at Discovery Health, her programs My Big Fat Body and CME Diabetes: Demystifying the Myths both won first place in the Health Education category of the International Medical Media Awards, and her Pets and People CME won a Silver Telly Award.  At Animal Planet, her series Last Chance Highway won the National Humane Society’s Genesis award for Best Reality Series. For Pit Bulls & Parolees, she was awarded the Women’s Image Network’s Best Reality Series. Her series Too Cute! received two Emmy nominations, and River Monsters won the Cablefax Award for Best Series, Animal/Nature programming.  

Lucas received her BA in Telecommunications/Radio and Television Broadcasting from Penn State University.  She’s a Penn State University College of Communications Alumni Board member and a member of the Academy for Television Arts and Sciences.
