SaraJane (SJ) and her four daughters from Southern California pool their savings and head to Alaska in an attempt to reopen their deceased grandfather's gold mines, one in Nome and another 500 miles away in Fairbanks. Working side by side with grizzled, Alaskan mining crews, SJ and her daughters face the full wrath of Alaska. In a race against the season-ending winter, the women continue their family legacy and push to secure a return on their investment.

ULTIMATE SWARMS showcases some of the most extraordinary natural events on Earth, including one-and-a-half million bats that emerge nightly from their home beneath the Congress Avenue Bridge in Austin, Texas, and the 100-million crabs that turn Australia's Christmas Island red during their annual swarm. In Q2, 2013, Animal Planet achieved its most-watched third quarter ever in prime and total day among major key demos, including P2+ viewers (742K, 496K), HH (525K, 369K), P25-54 (305K, 201K) and P18-49 (286K, 196K). For the third consecutive quarter, Animal Planet ranked among the top-20 ad-supported cable networks based on M25-54 delivery (#19). The network also ranks among the top-20 cable networks in 2013 to date (#16).

Animal Planet has partnered with leading animal organizations through R.O.A.R (Reach Out. Act. Respond.) to inspire viewers to take action and be a voice for animals. The campaign aligns Animal Planet with a powerful roster of leading animal and environmental organizations.
Beginning Monday, October 14, R.O.A.R launches the third annual matching campaign to raise funds for seven participating R.O.A.R. partners. This year's focus on "30 Days to R.O.A.R." again provides partners with the opportunity to receive dollar-for-dollar matching contributions on consumer donations up to $100,000. The funds come from the sale of Animal Planet products, which are available at retailers nationwide.
During this year's campaign, R.O.A.R. will surpass the $1-million mark in total donations, including matching funds, consumer donations and proceeds from the sale of Animal Planet consumer products.
