Discovery Health's popular show MYSTERY DIAGNOSIS will spotlight an Auburn, Washington native this November. Kicking off the hit series' eighth season, Auburn's Carson Kuolt will share his riveting story with audiences across the nation. Carson's show, premiering on Monday, November 16 at 10 PM ET/PT, will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions as the Kuolts endure misdiagnoses and dismissals before ever finding a solution.

In August of 2004, Carson was born as the first child to Dina and Jeffrey Kuolt.  During a routine doctor's appointment at three months old, both Carson's parents and nurses are stunned to discover Carson's indifference to pain throughout a series of agonizing immunization injections. Weeks later, an unusual looking sore develops on his tongue, but doctors believe it to be a fleeting consequence of Carson's newly protruding teeth grinding on his tongue. Days later, Jeff is horrified when a chunk of his son's tongue plops to the table while spoon-feeding him-and Carson again remains unperturbed. Concerned, the Kuolts rush Carson to the hospital-but with doctors unable to diagnose this bizarre occurrence, Carson is released.  Then, at 10 months old, his astounding pain tolerance is again questioned when Carson remains stoic throughout his learn-to-walk pitfalls. Desperate for a diagnosis, the Kuolts see a genetic specialist who performs a nerve biopsy to test for nerve-fiber diseases. The results lead to an appalling diagnosis-Carson has Congenital Insensitivity to Pain with Anhidrosis (CIPA) a rare condition where patients are unable to feel pain, and do not sweat during physical exertion. His incapacity for pain renders him defenseless against severe bodily harm, and his inability to sweat deters his body from stabilizing its core temperature, making Carson susceptible to high fever, seizures and even death. With no cure or treatment for CIPA, 6-year-old Carson has learned to safely live with his disorder. Each day is challenging, but the Koults are determined to keep their beloved son safe.

Discovery Health's award-winning MYSTERY DIAGNOSIS chronicles the experiences of patients who suffer from conditions outside of the medical mainstream.  Each episode features patients who are initially misdiagnosed or undiagnosed altogether due to the uncommon nature of their symptoms and general lack of awareness regarding their conditions. This popular series-now in its eighth season on Discovery Health-profiles the strength and courage of heroic patients and determined medical practitioners as they struggle to make sense of baffling conditions.
