Dr. Alane Park
Dr. Alane Park, from Discovery Health's DELIVER ME.
In her own words:
I was born in Seoul, South Korea. I came over to the U.S. at age 8 as my mom wanted us to have an American education. I wasn't one of those who knew they were meant to be a doctor, despite the fact that my grandfather and uncle were doctors in Korea. I still remember my grandfather's office/pharmacy/lab below his home ... He was a pediatrician. I also remember my uncle studying under piles of books, and posters of the human anatomy on his wall while studying for his entrance exams to med school -- and wondering why in the world he would want to be a doctor.
I didn't really know that I wanted to be a doctor until I graduated from college. I feel so fortunate that I found a career that I absolutely love. I truly cannot envision doing anything else. OB/GYN allows me to do everything that I enjoy -- helping others, using my brain, applying science, becoming a part of other lives/families, operating, and seeing babies/children.
Then there's my family. I've been with my husband for over 20 years now. We have two wonderful boys, Matthew and Max. Parenting is by far the most challenging job I have. There are no manuals on children, to my dismay. They are absolutely amazing! I think having children has made me a better doctor, and working makes me a better mom. I'm juggling my life without dropping the balls too frequently with the help of my husband and "Harmony" (which means "grandma" in Korean; she's our wonderful nanny who has been with us since Matthew was a week old).
As for extracurricular activities, for the time being it's mostly "play dates" with my boys and their friends.
