World Premiere Simulcast Gives Science Channel Highest Rating in Netowrk History

The Thursday, November 25 world premiere of PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2010 posted a record cumulative 1.98 HH / 1.51 P25-54 between a Discovery Channel and Science Channel simulcast.  PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2010 was the highest-rated program on Discovery Channel since SHARK WEEK'S Into the Shark Bite on August 1, 2010 (+150% vs. Nov '09 Prime, 0.54 P25-54).  Earning a 1.72 HH / 1.35 P25-54, the 8-10PM special premiere telecast was the #1 non-sports telecast among ad-supported cable networks during primetime among P/M25-54 and P/M18-49.  It was also the #1 ad-supported cable telecast among W25-54 and W18-49 (excluding sports/movies).

Driven by tune in for PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2010, Discovery Channel was the #3 cable network in delivery during primetime, among P/M25-54 and P/M18-49 (no exclusions), ranking only behind NFLN and ESPN, both airing football. 

Earning a 0.85 HH / 0.56 P25-54, PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2010 gave Science Channel its highest HH rating in network history!  The special also matched the highest P25-54 rating for the network (from PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2009).  PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2010 is up +300% vs. Nov '09 prime delivery among P25-54. 

Delivering 4 million gross average (P2+) viewers, the PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2010 simulcast on Discovery Channel and Science Channel was the highest-rated airing in the program's history, surpassing several primetime broadcast telecasts that evening, bringing in more viewers in key demos than ABC and NBC:

  • o ABC's Modern Family for M25-54,
  • o ABC's Beyonce's I Am World Tour for M25-54, M18-49
  • o NBC's Taylor Swift Speak Now for M25-54, M18-49
  • o NBC's NWS SP: People of the Year for M25-54, M18-49
  • o NBC's The Apprentice for P18-49, M18-49
