Sister Wives

Image 1 / 10

At first glance, the Browns are a typical big American family, but as Kody, father and husband explains; ‘I fell in love, fell in love again, and fell in love again.' Kody Brown, is a polygamist with three wives (Wife #1, Meri; Wife #2 Janelle; Wife #3 Christine) and 13 rambunctious kids. This documentary series presents a fresh look at a lifestyle that has been mired in secrecy and misunderstanding. Shattering stereotypes, the Browns show the viewer a type of polygamy that has never been seen before - a lifestyle so close to mainstream America and a family so seemingly well adjusted.

Over the course of the first few episodes big changes come to the Brown family. Kody announces a courtship with Robyn, a single mother with 3 children of her own. Meanwhile Christine, wife #3, gives birth to Truely, her 6th child. It's an exciting time at the Browns as this energetic bunch comes to grips with the integration of Robyn and her kids after 15 years of stability. While Meri and Kody celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary we learn that surprisingly, it was Meri who first courted Robyn, but even though she played matchmaker, Meri struggles with her own jealousies with her husband's new relationship. Emotions run high in this ever-growing family and as they themselves say, the bringing of a new wife into a plural life is like upsetting a fruit basket - the fruit eventually gets put back in, but the basket never looks the same again.

All consenting adults when married, the four parents celebrate over 15 years of togetherness. This is a lifestyle like no other - where 13 children have three mothers and each wife has two "sister wives" (with another wife and three more kids on the way) sharing one father/husband.
