Hubble's Canvas

Image 1 / 7

HUBBLE'S CANVAS highlights key insights gained from mankind's most prolific scientific achievement, the Hubble Space Telescope. Witness striking images of astounding beauty and extraordinary works of art taken by the telescope as HUBBLE'S CANVAS takes us on a journey through the farthest reaches of the galaxy told through celestial masterpieces. Premieres every Friday at 1700 hrs (5:00 pm SIN/HK) beginning March 13.

The Hubble Space Telescope was named after its founder, American astronomer Edwin P. Hubble (1889-1953) whose claim to fame includes validating the "expanding universe" ideology that provided the foundation for the Big Bang theory. Launched in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope has indeed fulfilled man's desire to peer into the universe uninhibited. HUBBLE'S CANVAS will challenge the perceptions of those who have single-mindedly thought of astronomy as just science. The programme is narrated by noted astronomy columnist Ivan Semeniuk, whose career and passion for astronomy burgeoned with mankind's understanding of the universe.

The critically-acclaimed HUBBLE'S CANVAS won a Special Jury Award at the 41st WorldFest Houston Film Festival 2008, the world's longest-running independent film festival, and was nominated for the Best Science, Technology, Nature, Environment or Adventure Documentary Program award at the 23rd Gemini Awards 2008.
