The action begins early this month on Discovery Channel as STORM CHASERS 3 breaks onto the scene, showcasing the best tornado action ever. With new chases and intercepts, Tornado Alley is once again the hotspot for the world's top storm chasers, battling the weather and each other to obtain data and footage that could help unlock the secrets of nature's most intense storms. The storm chasing teams return with a fleet of customized vehicles designed to get closer than ever to America's deadly twisters. Will they succeed?
This season, extreme meteorologist Reed Timmer, IMAX filmmaker Sean Casey, and weather engineer Tim Samaras have all stepped up to the challenge and returned with new vehicles that will improve their chances of getting more and bigger tornado intercepts. Reed Timmer has jacked up his prime chase vehicle - now christened the SRV Dominator - with armour and new cutting-edge instrumentation. The TIV Crew led by Sean Casey has the next generation Tornado Intercept Vehicle running in top condition with a new camera turret and a lighter, faster chassis. Veteran storm chaser Josh Wurman has joined the massive VORTEX2 tornado research mission - a dedicated team of 80 scientists and crew in 35 vehicles working out the mysteries of tornadogenesis. New teams include a light scout vehicle, nicknamed the "Doghouse" that will be hot in pursuit, as part of the TIV team.

Storm Catchers
Tornado season erupts early in Oklahoma. Fearless meteorologist Reed Timmer unleashes the "Dominator", his ultimate armoured chasing machine. Veteran chaser Tim Samaras, an electrical engineer and inventor, chases multiples. IMAX filmmaker Sean Casey breaks in two new meteorologists, Brandon Ivey and Matt Hughes, who lead him into a rain-wrapped monster.
Bigger in Texas
Reed Timmer's close call in his armoured Dominator creates tension with Sean. In New Mexico, the new Dominator and old TIV battle the elements and each other, chasing down a tornado spawning storm. A huge wedge impacts in the Texas Panhandle. As rain makes these back roads turn to slippery mud, the unbelievable happens: a beautiful yet dangerous second tornado drops right in front of them. Trapped on mud roads between two tornados, Reed and Tim get up close and film the violent twisters, while Sean pushes his Tornado Intercept Vehicle too far.
Highway to Hail
Tornado season is in full swing. Sean is anxious to join forces with his former chasing partner, Dr Josh Wurman and be part of Vortex 2, the largest tornado research mission in history. Vortex 2 should be his best chance at driving into a powerful tornado, to film his dream shot. The only person standing in his way is Dr Wurman himself. But Josh has bigger things to worry about. Reed's new military-grade mobile radar is changing the landscape of Storm Chasing. The race for the holy grail of tornado data explodes and tempers flare across tornado alley.
Inside the Tornado
Reed Timmer aims to step up from aggressive chaser to extreme scientist with his new military-grade radar capable of measuring wind speeds inside a twister. But Reed's new science goals clash with his long time chasing partner Joel Taylor. As the perfect storm rages in Missouri, both Reed and Tim Samaras chase a violent rain-wrapped tornado. While Tim gets way too close for comfort, Reed gets his vehicle inside the circulation of an EF3, scoring the intercept of a lifetime.
Not in Kansas Anymore
Reed, Sean and Tim take on the strongest tornado conditions of the season, a super storm headed right for the Kansas-Missouri border. he dream setup packs country roads, while Mother Nature unleashes a twister in Tim's backyard. Tim gambles and intercepts one of the most dangerous tornadoes he's ever encountered.
Fight or Flight
Sean Casey's TIV crew and Tim Samaras' Twistex team face a huge rain-wrapped monster tornado. Reed launches a remote control plane to drop data-probes right into a tornado. It's a feat never achieved in the tornado research community. But remote control isn't enough for Reed as he punches right into an erratic EF2 tornado, only to find himself surrounded by powerful vortices and no time to get out of their way. Records are broken, limits are tested and stakes are high... all in a days work for these veteran tornado chasers.

Wyoming sets the stage for an epic tornado showdown. Sean Casey's meteorologists finally put him in position for the IMAX shot of a lifetime. This time he hits a home run and everyone scores big. Josh Wurman's Vortex 2 science team makes history, collecting the most complete tornado life cycle data ever recorded.
EF-3 Strikes You're Out!
On the last chase of the season, Reed and Tim have one last chance to achieve their ultimate goals, but the Nebraska storms won't give up their secrets without a fight. Tim and Reed intercept multiple tornados, pushing it further and further with each touchdown, trying to record inside-a-twister radar data. But when a twister intensifies into a monster wedge right on top of Reed's armoured research vehicle, Mother Nature shows who really dominates in Tornado Alley.
