Animal Cops Philadelphia

Image 1 / 10

The PSPCA (Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has been around for 140 years. Based in downtown Philadelphia, USA, its nine agents cover this area state wide but its main focus is within Philadelphia. Each year 41,000 animals come through the doors of the organization. The agents handle everything from cats and dogs to horses, bears, reptiles, raptors, sea mammals, snakes and even the occasional tiger or crocodile. Last year Humane Law Enforcement conducted 7,000 investigations and made 75 arrests. They expect to exceed that figure this year as a result of ramping up their operation. In the last three months alone they have made 14 arrests - in one case the agent caught a perpetrator red-handed, brutally attempting to strangle cats. From the inner city to the outlying mountains and farms, this is a site that offers huge variety and a team committed to and passionate about seeking justice for the animals they serve.Animal Cops: Houston is an observational documentary series following the work of the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Texas, USA. The HSPCA receives over 10,000 reports of cruelty or neglect every year, and its small team of investigators is dedicated to helping these victims of abuse. The Animal Planet cameras follow the team every step of the way, to bring these incredible stories to life, from the initial investigation and rescue, through court cases and medical rehabilitation, to, in most cases, adoption to new, loving homes. From taking part in a police raid on a property suspected of being used to stage illegal dog fights to working to combat animal abuse across Texas, this hard hitting series offers a unique insight into the field of animal welfare.
