In the 1960s, a musician was discovered in a bar in Detroit by two producers with a love of melodies and poignant lyrics. They recorded an album that they thought was going to place the artist as one of the greats of his generation. But success never came. In fact, the singer disappeared amid rumours about his suicide on stage. While the figure of the artist is lost in oblivion, a bootleg recording found in apartheid South Africa was becoming a phenomenon. Two South African fans are now determined to find out what really happened to their hero. Their research has led to a remarkable story, to the myth of "Rodriguez". This is a film about hope, inspiration and the power of music.
