At the height of the Cold War, K-129 offered the US an abundance of unique intelligence targets, a vital opportunity to study Soviet nuclear weapons technology, and a chance to break into Soviet cryptographic systems. ‘Azorian: The Raising of the K-129' explores one of the most expensive covert operations in CIA history. From its initial loss in March 1968 until the summer of 1974, the Soviet's were unaware of the US Navy's successful mission to locate and photograph the wreck. Unbeknown to them, the CIA were preparing their largest, most audacious salvage attempt in "Project Azorian". Managers and engineers who consider Project Azorian their finest hour, finally reveal in on-camera interviews, their side of the story. This, teamed with never-before-seen photography and film of the wreck taken during the 1974 mission, provides the first factual and documented account of this unique mission ever made available, outside the confines of US intelligence.
