Louis XV, The Dark King

Image 1 / 2

The story Louis XV, king of France between 1715 to 1774, and once nicknamed 'the Well-Beloved'. However his ill-advised financial policies damaged the power of France, weakened the treasury, discredited the monarchy, and arguably led to the French Revolution which broke out 15 years after his death. Louis was a solitary monarch who was fond of freedom but got locked in his golden cage, surrendering to the flattery of his mistresses and courtesans, rather than leading the changes demanded by the people. Soon came the darkness of a king that was, both frightened by his role and terrified of himself.
