Life on Fire

Image 1 / 10

‘Life on Fire' explores the human, social and economic impact of volcanic eruptions across the globe. One of the most spectacular and powerful forces on our planet, volcanoes can create new land, change landscapes and encourage life to flourish. They can also destroy civilisations. Yet, despite the dangers, societies around the world have chosen to settle at the fertile feet of active volcanoes. This incredible two-part documentary investigates the work of prominent scientists and volcanologists tasked with protecting those who live beneath the Earth's fire. These volcano doctors use their tools and knowledge to try to predict and analyse the volcanoes' slightest tremors in an effort to prevent disaster. Focusing on the effects of the active Icelandic volcano which brought European air-traffic to a standstill for days, volcano experts anticipate eruptions of much greater magnitude in the near future, not only in Iceland but across Europe. Will Europe be ready to deal with these impending eruptions?
