Raid on Texas Cult

UK PREMIERE, TUESDAY 22ND SEPTEMBER, 9.00PM

Image 1 / 1

On April 3 2008, more than 400 children of the Fundamentalist Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, or FLDS, were forcibly removed from what the state of Texas deemed at the time as a potentially dangerous lifestyle. The state alleged that adult men were marrying and having sex with underage girls – some said to be as young as 14 years old. The FLDS readily admits their religion encourages men to take multiple wives, but denies any allegations of abuse and insists its religious freedom is being trampled on by the state of Texas. The women within the FLDS describe their community as heaven on earth and believe they are promised eternal salvation. They say they are not abused housewives forced into loveless marriages as teenagers, and that they cherish their children, who are their greatest treasures. But some who have either been kicked out or chosen to leave FLDS have witnessed abuse. And they say they have been subjected to a regimented and numbing program of mind control.
