Photographer and filmmaker Timothy Allen, known for his earlier work on Discovery Channel’s Human Planet, the awe-inspiring multi-part series that documented people's incredible ability to survive and thrive in our planet's most extreme environments, now captures life at the edge of the world as he explores the Siberian wilderness to follow the migration of reindeer in the Yamal-Nenets region. This 16-day journey is documented in Animal Planet’s eight-minute film, EPIC ANIMAL JOURNEYS, which premieres Monday, Sept. 18 at 11PM ET/PT.

In EPIC ANIMAL JOURNEYS, Allen faces extreme weather and below freezing temperatures to follow a 500-mile migration of reindeer across the bleak terrain of the frozen Ob River with the Nenets tribe who have led a nomadic existence on the Arctic tundra for thousands of years. The Nenets are 10,000 members strong and command a reindeer flock of approximately 300,000. Allen also documents the Nenets’ journey, including how they live and survive during the 16-day trek.

Animal Planet will also feature content from EPIC ANIMAL JOURNEYS across its social media platforms on Facebook and Twitter via @AnimalPlanet that will include photography taken by Allen during the journey as well as short form videos.

EPIC ANIMAL JOURNEYS is produced for Animal Planet by Barcroft where Peter Wyles and Sam Barcroft serve as executive producers. The film was developed by Animal Planet’s Kurt Tondorf.
