Discovery Education Welcomes Stephen Wakefield as Vice President of Public Affairs

Silver Spring, Md. (June 17, 2013) - Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content for K-12 classrooms, has named Stephen Wakefield vice president of public affairs. With more than 15 years of experience, including eight years in the education industry, Wakefield will develop meaningful, ongoing relationships and collaborations with like-minded associations, foundations, think tanks and other organizations aligned to providing students the authentic learning environments they need for college, career and citizenship readiness.

Wakefield joins Discovery Education from ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), where he served as director of communications. In this position, he developed and directed the organization's strategic communications and public relations functions, including cultivating and managing external relationships and partnerships to advance the association's goals.
Previously, Wakefield served as director of communications and program manager for Discovery Education. His career also has spanned work in government relations, marketing and member services for a variety of associations, including the Association of Marina Industries and the American Public Power Association, among others.
Wakefield holds a bachelor's degree from Alvernia University in Pennsylvania and a master's degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
