Silver Spring, Md. (February 9, 2015) - Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, has named Michael Roth director of professional development implementation. With more than 20 years of experience in the education industry, Roth will work collaboratively with Discovery Education's district partners across the country to develop and implement custom-designed professional development programs that fulfill districts' goals and improve student achievement.

In this role, Roth will establish instructional, assessment and pedagogical connections to ensure that Discovery Education's professional development programs best inform educational practices and effectively support educators in the digital transition. He will oversee all professional development implementations to ensure they are consistent with today's cutting-edge and research-based best practices in professional development and adult learning theory. Roth will also work closely with district administrators to guide the successful integration and utilization of Discovery Education services in classroom instruction.

"Michael has an extremely impressive history working in education that will provide tremendous insight to our company as we continue to create innovative professional development programs for educators across the country," said Craig Halper, vice president of implementation and operations, Discovery Education. "I am confident that his experience and leadership in K-12 education will be an invaluable asset to Discovery Education as we strive to empower educators during the digital transition."

Prior to joining Discovery Education, Roth served as superintendent of Salisbury Township School District in Pennsylvania where he successfully delivered innovative K-12 education programs for students, educators and administrators. During this time, Roth established private and corporate partnerships to provide exciting educational initiatives, including the development of 1:1 learning environments, to students in his district. He also held regional leadership events to address the role of technology transformation in classrooms and instruction.

Previously, Roth served as assistant superintendent for educational programs at Nazareth Area School District in Pennsylvania where he facilitated countywide professional development summits focusing on the transition to Common Core and college readiness. In addition, Roth has served in a variety of administrator-level roles in school systems across the state of Pennsylvania, including director of K-12 educational programs at Quakertown Community School District, director of K-12 curriculum at Nazareth Area School District, and principal at Nazareth Area Middle School.

Roth holds a bachelor's degree from Moravian College and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education.
