DISCOVERY CHANNEL DELIVERS BEST SUMMER EVER IN VIEWERSHIP, PERSONS AND WOMEN WHILE DOMINATING CABLE AMONG MEN

Driven by Discovery Channel’s most-watched June ever, the highest rated SHARK WEEK on record, the highest-rated month ever among women in July, and the premiere of cable’s #1 new unscripted series NAKED AND AFRAID XL, Discovery Channel delivered its best summer ever among Persons, Women and Total Viewers during Summer 2015 (June 1 – August 30) and dominated on cable as #1 among both Men 25-54 and Men 18-49, no exclusions, in L+3.
Additionally, Discovery Channel broke into Summer’s Top 10 for both Women 25-54 (#7) and Women 18-49 (#8) while NAKED AND AFRAID XL broke Discovery ratings records among Persons and Women. Discovery also delivered double digit increases in viewersip and key demos vs. Summer 2014.
Summer 2015 wrapped as Discovery Channel’s highest-rated summer ever across Persons 25-54 up +17% (0.84 vs. 0.72), Women 25-54 up +26% (0.67 vs. 0.53), Persons 18-49 up +17% (0.70 vs. .60), Women 18-49 up +23% (0.58 vs. 0.47) and Households up +24% (1.20 vs. 0.97). It’s also the network’s most-watched summer ever among Total Viewers P2+ up +21 % vs. Summer 2014 (1.6m vs. 1.3m).
Discovery Channel topped key demos over the summer that included the Top Three cable originals for Persons 25-54 (ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE, NAKED AND AFRAID XL and DEADLIEST CATCH), the top four for Men 25-54 (DEADLIEST CATCH, STREET OUTLAWS, ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE and NAKED AND AFRAID XL), and four of the Top 10 in Persons 18-49 with NAKED AND AFRAID XL (#3), ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE (#4), DEADLIEST CATCH (#6) and STREET OUTLAWS (#7). Additionally, Discovery had the top two series in Men 18-49 with STREET OUTLAWS and DEADLIEST CATCH, with NAKED AND AFRAID XL at #4 and ALASKAN BUSH PEOPLE at #5. In Men 18-34, Discovery had two of the top five with STREET OUTLAWS (#2) and NAKED AND AFRAID XL (#3).
SHARK WEEK 2015 was the highest-rated SHARK WEEK in the event's 28 year history in Prime Time in Persons 25-54, Women 25-54/18-49. It was also the highest-rated SHARK WEEK on record in Total Day in Persons/Men Women 25-54, Persons/Women 18-49, Women 18-34, Persons 6-11 and Total Viewers P2+ from July 5-11. Shark After Dark, SHARK WEEK's late-night talk show, hosted by filmmaker Eli Roth, grabbed its highest ratings in the history of the series, up double digits vs. 2014 in Persons 25-54 (13% vs. 2014), and ranked #1 in its time period on cable across Persons/Men/Women 25-54.
