Mind Of A Monster Podcast

Will be available beginning Tuesday, April 4 on Apple, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts

Based on the iconic ID television specials, the MIND OF A MONSTER podcast explores what really goes on inside the depraved minds of notorious serial killers with chilling audio straight from the killers themselves. Season 4 of the podcast charts the trajectory of one of the most sadistic serial killers in history – Jeffrey Dahmer. Punctuated with audio narrating Dahmer’s own words, host and criminal psychologist Dr. Michelle Ward takes a deep dive into the dark and twisted world of Jeffrey Dahmer. Featuring interviews from family, acquaintances, experts and investigators to unpack just how he went from a typical suburban kid to a ruthless killer, the six-episode series MIND OF A MONSTER will be available beginning Tuesday, April 4 on Apple, SpotifyYouTube or wherever you get your podcasts. Fans of the TV series can watch past specials streaming on discovery+.

From 1978 to 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys, attempted to kill at least two others and attacked, drugged and abused countless more. He cannibalized some of his victims, dismembered their bodies, preyed on the vulnerable and took advantage of the pre-existing gay stigma to become one of the most depraved serial killers in American history. MIND OF A MONSTER delves into the true story behind this unlikely killer and profiles the many infuriating encounters with the police that unwittingly allowed his reign of terror to last for 13 long years with dozens of victims in his wake.

MIND OF A MONSTER begins in the small town of Bath, Ohio, where a troubled teenager is developing some disturbing interests. After years of experimenting with, and dissecting, roadkill, his desires shift to something far more sinister: he’s desperate to possess a lifeless male body. Then, one fateful summer day, he crosses paths with a young hitchhiker. It triggers a terrifying chain of events.

Interviews in the premiere episode, titled “First Kill,” include:

  • Lionel Dahmer, Jeffrey’s father, who further details his attempts to get his son the help he so desperately needed
  • Mike Kukral, Jeffrey’s classmate, who discusses how his behavior shifted from middle to high school
  • Anne E. Schwartz, author of “Monster: The True Story of the Jeffrey Dahmer Murders,” who was a journalist in the 1990s covering Dahmer’s case
  • Dr. Fred Berlin, a world-renowned authority on deviant sexual behavior, who spent hours interviewing and assessing Dahmer for the courts

MIND OF A MONSTER is hosted by Dr. Michelle Ward who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in clinical neuroscience. Her expertise in crime is twofold: she is both a criminal psychologist and jury consultant. She has worked on the nation's most notable trials and interviewed notorious criminals.

Previous installments of the MIND OF A MONSTER podcast have explored Ted Bundy, Gary Ridgway “The Green River Killer,” Ed Kemper "The Co-Ed Killer,” Herbert Mullin, The Hillside Strangler and The Night Stalker.
