(Silver Spring, Md.) - Thanksgiving's annual battle royal returns to television as teams compete for the title of  "Lord of the Gourd" at PUNKIN CHUNKIN 2013.  Now in its sixth year on Science Channel, this signature event has become a Thanksgiving tradition, served up beside turkey, stuffing, football and (of course) pumpkin pie.  Fall's annual event features more than 100 athletes of engineering vying for championship glory in a Delaware cornfield. Watch as pumpkins go the distance in a high-stakes contest of unbelievable engineering and autumnal absurdity in PUNKIN CHUNKIN on Thanksgiving nightThursday, November 28 at 8:00 PM (ET/PT) only on Science Channel.

PUNKIN CHUNKIN is an epic gathering of unconventional engineers - this year taking place from November 1-3- where teams from across America descend upon on a Delaware farm to see whose homemade contraptions can propel a pumpkin the farthest.

Science Channel is once again capturing all of the high-flying PUNKIN CHUNKIN action with MYTHBUSTERS Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci returning as hosts, taking viewers behind the firing line to chronicle on all of the excitement and antics of Punkin Chunkin teams. Will Young Glory III remain champions in the coveted air cannon division or will there be a new powerhouse? With titles on the line in every division, teams are expected to pull out all the stops in hopes of achieving the Punkin Chunkin glory, and will strain to attain the holy grail of pumpkin propulsion: launching a pumpkin more than one mile.

"PUNKIN CHUNKIN represents the best and brightest in backyard engineering across the country", said Debbie Adler Myers, general manager and executive vice president of Science Channel. "PUNKIN CHUNKIN has grown into a pop culture phenomenon, inspiring legions of fans to recreate the excitement of the Thanksgiving tradition."

The World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association (WCPCA) hosts Punkin Chunkin annually in Sussex County Delaware to benefit a number of charitable organizations including St. Jude's Children's Hospital and ChildHelp.

Punkin Chunkin buzz has already begun with a wildly popular appearance by Kari, Tori, Grant and WCPCA members during New York Comic Con earlier this fall. The group showcased the enthusiastic fun of past events, and Team Smokin was on-hand thrilling the crowd with their air cannon, which finished in fourth place in 2012.

PUNKIN CHUNKIN is produced by Sharp Entertainment. Matt Sharp is executive producer for Sharp Entertainment. For Science Channel, Josh Berkley is executive producer, Lindsey Foster is associate producer.  Debbie Myers is General Manager and Executive Vice President for Science Channel.

About The WCPCA
WCPCA is a non-profit association started in 1986 that benefits the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Childhelp® organizations.  Since 1986, Sussex County, Delaware has been home to the annual Punkin Chunkin World Championships-a three-day festival where hardcore engineers and backyard tinkerers trailer their gigantic, homebuilt contraptions with one common goal: to launch eight to ten pound pumpkins as far as mechanically possible.  The competition is divided into seven categories defined by the type of machine used-motorized, centrifugal spinners, and the mighty air cannons.  Bringing the sport of pumpkin hurling to ever greater distances of chunkin, the heated competitions have created a current world record of 4,483 feet, approximately 800 feet short of a mile.  Could this be the year that one team hits the coveted one-mile mark and is crowned the greatest chunker ever?
