July 17, 2015- Join Science Channel for the LIVE broadcast via NASA TV as NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren and Kimiya Yui of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) with Oleg Kononenko of Roscosmos launch aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS). Tune into Science Channel next Wednesday, July 22 at 4:57PM ET to see the live spacecraft launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
The astronauts will be joining the crew currently spending one full year living and working aboard the ISS. The mission's goal is to understand how the human body reacts and adapts to the harsh environment of space. Data from the expedition will be used to determine whether there are ways to further reduce the risks of future long-duration missions to an asteroid and eventually Mars. The crew will support several hundred experiments in biology, biotechnology, physical science and Earth science - research that will impact life on Earth.
