With over a hundred "I-Should-Have-Thought-Of-That" inventions to choose from, picking a winner for the Grand Finals of THE NEW INVENTORS is no walk in the park. Join host James O'Loghlin and a venerable panel of judges - comprising Australia's leading architects, designers, engineers, scientists and new media specialists - as they weed through the entries to pick deserving winners in THE NEW INVENTORS SEASON 5 SPECIAL. Airs every Friday at 2030 hrs (8:30 pm SIN/HK). Encores Saturday at 0100 hrs (1:00 am) and Tuesday at midnight (12:00 am).

A one-hour special, THE NEW INVENTORS SEASON 5 SPECIAL delves into the creative world of design and invention - ushering in news bytes and trade secrets from emerging artists who have been burrowing away in their studios, sheds, laboratories and kitchens. Counting down to the final moments of truth, these budding inventors, innovators and designers are all holding their breath as their designs are evaluated based on the merits of originality, design qualities, manufacturing potential, pricing, marketability, safety and the critical 'need' factor.

From an invention that can help with your golf swing and a handy portable bar top, to super accurate temperature sensors and a hydrogen-fuelled boat that counteracts the disadvantages of fossil fuels, take a peep at tomorrow's objects of desire with a look-back at the best of the season in the following episodes, highlighted in The New Inventors season 5 special:

Episode 1 ChassisSim is a racecar simulator like no other; KISSS Ebb and Flow Mat represent a leap forward in green roof technology; and PinPoint sensors that rely on a eutectic switch is capable of sensing with extreme accuracy a great range of specific temperatures.

Episode 2 Hint-On-Swing is an attractively simple invention that has been designed to assist your golf game; Lichen is a durable three in one piece of canvas that can be transformed into a swag (sleeping sack), tarpaulin or a jacket; and SaltMaster is a compact and relatively inexpensive way to fight salinity by using sub-surface drainage.

Episode 3 Hip-Tite is a ridge-cap starter tile fixture that solves the problem of cracked or fallen-in starter and hip tiles; Row and Roll may be the first rowing bicycle to translate the full power of the rowing stroke into forward motion on land; and Trayramp is a lightweight, aluminium ramp that is easy and safe to use, and stores away neatly underneath the ute tray.

Episode 4 Biosol slows the development of bacteria inside sewage and can massively reduce the damage done to valuable pipe infrastructure; EZ Netter is an invention which lets you spool out the fence mesh vertically, straight onto the fence posts; and Rack ‘n' Roll is a stainless steel rack and skewer system designed to cook sausages on a heated cooking appliance such as a barbeque surface.

Episode 5 PedalPower+ is a device which allows cyclist to charge small electronic devices using the environmentally friendly power of their bicycle and the sun; Snorkeller's Distress Stick is a device that can be carried by each snorkeller and lets anyone watching know immediately that the snorkeller is in trouble; and Transtilt is a specially designed, harnessing framework for trucks that allows precast concrete wall panels to be safely and efficiently transported and unloaded.

Episode 6 Edge Pinning Head Tool is a pneumatically powered tool, designed for use in the tank building industry; Tarpsafe is an electronically operated machine that lifts your rolled up tarp above the truck and applies it to the load without anyone having to leave the ground; and UPheels are clear plastic supports, which prevent narrow spikes from sinking into soft surfaces.

Episode 7 EcoVision puts all this information at your fingertips in an easy to understand format; Piccolo is a battery operated device, which has changeable heads so that you can fit both an interdental probe and a conventional electronic toothbrush head keeping it all in one neat unit; and Hinged Windmill is designed for new windmills or as a retrofit to old windmills.

Episode 8 Balcony Bar creates a bar top on your balcony railing, safely holding drinks, dinnerware, bowls, bottles, ashtrays and even your laptop computer; LED P Plate helps both drivers and police identify P Plate drivers easily at night; Timber Turbo allows a carpenter to both insert one tongue-and-groove floorboard firmly into the previous one, and fix the board to the joist with a staple.

Episode 9 Excalibur E2 Dragon Boat paddle measures the force being applied to it by the paddler and the position of the paddle in the water; PosturePals are adhesive spinal supports applied to the back area to re-educate posture and avoid people adopting flexed or loaded postures which lead to back pain, neck pain and headaches; and Roofing Protractor allows the builder to construct different types of roof frames without building a template for each frame.

Episode 10 Ezymount is a modified bike seat, which can be raised and lowered as you ride, enabling a person with mobility issues to mount or dismount a bike more easily; RotaKant is a winch specially designed to take the hard labour; and Transporter is a traditional looking coffin shaped box that gently allows your shrouded body to enter the grave.

Episode 11 Barnacle Guard is a ring (or annulus) of two kinds of plastic that is fitted around a pontoon pylon; Everyday Scooter commuter is a trailer designed to transport powered wheelchairs or scooters behind a car; and TELE-Mech is a compact and sturdy telescoping gate system that's so simple you could install it yourself.

Episode 12 CBRU-FXT is a mobile unit which mechanically engages high voltage circuit breakers and automatically winds them up and down - ‘racking' them ready for servicing while the operator is standing at a safe distance away directing the unit by remote control; Jump & Drop Trap is a pigeon ‘trap' (or loft entry door) which prevents access to the loft by predators; and Spoton Golf Glasses fixes the swing problem by focusing your eyes on the ball.

Episode 13 Freeform Board is a novel exercise device that exercises the entire network of muscles including deep postural muscles; Electroluminescent lighting works when a current is passed through a special substance called phosphor which glows as electrons pass through it; and Snake Pick is an improved guitar pick that wraps around your index finger eliminating the problem of the pick spinning around and dropping out of fingers.

Episode 14 Ezygo is a transportation and storage device for your outboard motor; Rosegum's Solar Kilns use traditional solar thermal technology to create a greener alternative for wood kilns; and Strapping is used in the construction industry to give extra support to a wooden framework.

Episode 15 Magno-Plast is a wall board with magnetic attraction; Tony has worked out the ultimate way to handle large sheep, alpacas and llamas with Portable Animal Restraint; and after more than 30 years development, the Rotacaster Omni-directional Wheel is finally here.

Episode 16 DNA Car Guard is a colourless harmless liquid, which is sprayed onto a would-be car thief as soon as they lean into the car; GRAS system tracks and distributes greywater onto a garden using in soil sensors and a touch screen computer system; and Safe Turn Indicator is a small, portable, automatic bicycle indicator that clips easily to the wristband.

Episode 17 Clever Dick Cable Tool is a simple device that makes the location of an entry point into the cavity a simple and precise exercise; Optivizor is a soft PVC head covering, designed to protect animal's eyes after surgery or trauma to the face allowing the wound to heal; and Swinging Lifter is a Forklift / Crane, which is easily installed onto the back of a one Tonne trailer truck or utility vehicle.

Episode 18 Multi-Use Mobility Aid (M.U.M.A.) is a versatile device designed to aid nurses and patients with hindered mobility; mHITS lets you imagine what it would be like if you could buy things by sending an SMS from your mobile phone; and Surfer's Suite is a surfboard travel bag with a difference.

Episode 19 Barrow power strap assists in the propulsion and balance of wheelbarrows; Brodie Sediment Extractor is a device used to remove sediment from home brew beer during the fermenting stage; and if casting off puts twists into your line every time, then Little Fins work in the opposite way, to take the twists out each time you reel the line back in.

Episode 20 Animal Recognition Technology is an animal management invention, which differentiates the sheep from the goats; Water Cell is a custom designed, sub-floor water management system that is capable of capturing almost all the water that falls on your roof and storing it in large robust bladders; and Wrino boat hook incorporates a number of innovations designed to make mooring your boat a whole lot easier.

Episode 21 Adjustable Quilting Ruler is a quilting tool that not only helps you hold your fabric exactly in line so every cut is completely accurate; Arachnipod is a versatile, light-weight modular scaffolding system; and Escape Stirrup is a stirrup within a stirrup.

Episode 22 Breed'n Betsy serves as a training aid for artificial breeding, pregnancy diagnosis and embryo transplanting in cattle and horses; Orbita 3-Style Mouse has turned the mouse 360°; and Shadow Caddy is a three wheel robotic caddy that acts like a human caddy.

Episode 23 Barilliant system deals with a variety of beer-related problems; Hay Look Out alerts one when the temperature inside your hay bale has reached 60 degrees; and Rotosign is an eye catching sign which uses reflected light and movement to project whatever words or design the customer wants to make.

Episode 24 Electric Nomad is a standard sized electric guitar that features all the usual features, usability and playability of a normal electric guitar; Tidal Anchor Test Skid is a set of scales on wheels and a skid base; and Wine Preserva is a circular disk that preserves the freshness of the wine after it has been opened.

Episode 25 Breastfeeding Sling aids large breasted woman in breastfeeding; Easy Diverter diverts water from a shower, bath or sink to either a grey water or sewer stream; and STATT System comprises three inventions, which allows construction workers to erect roof trusses without having to climb into the roof space.

Episode 25 Fytowall is a system that creates a simple solution for greening vertical wall space, with minimal water use and a much wider variety of plants; Modular Table Tennis is a round table tennis table in six segments that can be configured into as many playing shapes as your imagination allows; and Trace X8 is an automated camera operating system that enables one person to job of many - and better.

Episode 26 Slate roofing is expensive and alternatives to slate are not as strong, but Trevor Proctor has invented a new way of installing slate roofs; mepBLITZ machine is a mobile electro-polisher that works quickly without the need for highly toxic chemicals; and THOMM is software that can list, prioritise, and assign important tasks to hospital in-patients for the next shift.

Episode 27 SMRT Bodyspanner is designed to bring a vast array of massage, stretching and resistance workout functionality to one easily transportable unit; Raminator is a shock absorber made up of two steel plates that are fitted between the ATM and the ground; and Smart Hook makes long line fishing safer for seabirds and turtles.

Episode 28 Drum Grab provides a safer, quicker and easier way to lift a 44 gallon (200litre) drum; Intersection Shelving is built with a simple yet clever design feature which allows one to fit more on them; and Water Sensing Apparatus uses low voltage electric current to test the water content of the cement mix in your mixer.

Episode 29 With the Clipex fencing system, there will be no more tying or threading wires through the holes; Multi Purpose Measuring Staff is a new design of staff to take out the calculations in levelling work, thereby saving time and limiting mistakes; and SimPAD is an incontinence pad that contains sensors which notify the carer when they need to be changed.

Episode 30 Boomerang is a basketball rebounder which also aids the player correct their shooting technique; Motor-Straw Drink Dispenser is a machine with variable speeds that pumps liquid through a long straw, enabling a high needs disabled person to drink independently of their carer; and the Rainmax system has two parts and it allows you to collect all the water that falls on your roof using the existing guttering system without the need to install new guttering to direct the water to the tank.

Episode 31 Load Choker enables you to choke straps or chains in a legally acceptable manner; Percusso allows the musician to make two different sounds with one hand; and Precision Pipe Profiler is a hand operated tool that uses a plasma torch to cut a range of ‘profiles' in steel pipe.

Episode 32 AsTex is a tool for measuring tactile (touch) sensitivity quickly, accurately and repeatedly; Ball Retriever specialises in retrieving tennis balls from gutters, but it can go a long way to solving the problem of ANY ball stuck on a roof; and Rapco are reusable chair and sofa covers designed to ease the problems associated with the moving business.

Episode 33 Accessible Childproof Latch is a modification to a magnetic latch gate, which allows a shorter adult or someone in a wheelchair to open the gate using a special key; Swarm software system runs on G3 mobile phones and it has two unique functions; and WiseMan LadaFast is a clamp, which is secured onto the sides of the ladder so it can be fixed into position around a sturdy fixture such as the top of a wall, or a gutter.

Episode 34 Renewable Hydrogen Boat counteracts the disadvantages of fossil fuels; and the University of South Australia's lovable electric car is named TREV (Two-seater Renewable Energy Vehicle) and it uses less than a fifth of the energy of a conventional car.

Episode 35 EzyBouquet Guide is simply a device that enables any skilled or unskilled person to make a bouquet of flowers; Sea Scoopa scoops and lifts people out of the water; and Shaft is a security device that works on the GSM mobile phone network.

Episode 36 Electronic Water Purifier enables anybody anywhere to convert their readily available but polluted non salty water to potable standard at a fraction of the cost of bottled water; Legless Bar allows extra table space for entertaining, and it is non-intrusive and attractive; and Snugabub sheets maximise cot safety for newborn babies by basing its design elements on safe sleeping recommendations.

Episode 37 Easy Girth is an invention which uses a rope threaded through a series of small pulleys and cleats to tighten the girth; Joinlox is a mechanical fastening system that has been developed to allow water tanks to be more easily transportable; and RIASORB is a ‘rubber bushing' torsional suspension system, which uses special elastomer ‘rubber' materials and novel ‘lobed-core' design.

Episode 38 AquaKerb captures rainwater from the street gutter and delivers it to the root zone of the street tree; BENEX blocks have been tested by the CSIRO and found to be stronger than almost every other masonry product; and Post Pregnancy Recovery Shorts are a light-weight garment which aims to provide stability as well as comfort for mothers during the first few weeks following pregnancy.

Episode 39 BioCube is an all-in-one biodiesel plant that has been designed to work in the toughest environments by a single person with a minimum of skill or maintenance; Graffit-e-Nose continuously monitors airborne chemicals in real time and identifies, discriminates and measures the intensity of smells; and TrackChair has a new drive mechanism design for manual wheelchairs.

Episode 40 QuietWave uses a 100% organic rubberised material to dampen the transfer of sound through walls, floors, ceilings and doors; Saints Safety Barrel overcomes the danger of storing flares and emergency radios in different locations; and Stepwise helps secure the process of using your credit card to make payments online or over the phone.
