The show follows several teams of top engineers from around the U.S. as they struggle to compete for a monetary grand prize, to build the first vehicle able to drive itself through an urban obstacle course not designed for human driving - a mock city with traffic circles, disabled vehicles, cinder block and ridiculous driving scenarios. The robocars are all autonomous and operated by data from GPS, lasers and video cameras processed on laptops. The US Congress wants to save soldier's lives by replacing them on routine missions in war zones with autonomous vehicles. The goal of the ‘Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency' (DARPA) is to eventually develop a robocar to just this. Journey with the team through their strategy formation, the problems they encounter along the way and how they solved them leading up to the ultimate DARPA Urban Challenge. Which design will stand the test and work best?
