San Francisco, Calif. – Discovery Digital Networks and TestTube’s DNews and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory have partnered to bring space and science enthusiasts SpaceOut, a monthly Google+ Hangout in which DNews hosts and experts are joined by NASA JPL’s top minds to discuss amazing topics, like asteroids and meteors, in an interactive and accessible forum. The SpaceOuts are available live on the DNews Google+ page and archived on TestTube.com and the DNews YouTube channel.

The first DNews and NASA JPL SpaceOut launched on May 21, hosted by Trace Dominguez and Discovery News space producer and astrophysicist Dr. Ian O’Neill and featuring Dr. Amy Mainzer, Don Yeomans and Brian Muirhead of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Curious minds can join the next SpaceOut event on Tuesday, June 24, at 7pm ET/4pm PT as hosts Trace Dominguez and Dr. Ian O’Neill discuss NASA’s next earth science mission, the Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2, with Annemarie Eldering, Deputy Project Scientist, NASA and Josh Willis, Oceanographer and Climate Scientist, JPL.

“The DNews viewer is incredibly curious about space exploration and smart science content, and our monthly SpaceOuts are a great addition to our Space Friday series and ongoing coverage of the topic,” said Barry Pousman, Executive Producer of Discovery Digital Networks’ TestTube, home to DNews. “NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory team understands the power of the web to reach, engage and inspire, and we’re proud to work with the brilliant JPL team to bring space science to new audiences.”

"At JPL, we are driven with a quest to explore the unknown and the mission to share our results," said Veronica McGregor, JPL News and Social Media Manager. “We invite space fans and space newbies to interact in real time with the scientists and engineers behind dozens of missions exploring our home planet, the solar system and beyond.”

The SpaceOuts are the perfect complement to DNews’ daily hits of smart science and tech news, anchored by hosts Trace Dominguez, Tara Long and Laci Green. Since launching in December 2012, DNews has become Discovery Digital Networks’ most popular series with more than 26 million streams in March 2014 alone.

About NASA JPL
JPL is a federally funded research and development facility managed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena for NASA. Since 1958 and the launch of the first U.S. satellite, Explorer 1, JPL has been at the forefront of robotic space exploration, sending a fleet of spacecraft to study all the planets in our solar system and the universe beyond.  JPL currently operates two-dozen NASA spacecraft and rovers that are exploring Mars, Saturn, the asteroid belt, interplanetary space, galaxies and black holes, and our home planet.  JPL is also the home to NASA's Deep Space Network, used for tracking and communicating with spacecraft across the solar system; and NASA's Near-Earth Object Office, which coordinates NASA-sponsored efforts to detect, track and characterize potentially hazardous asteroids and comets that could approach Earth.
