(Silver Spring, MD) – It’s a matter of life-or-death in Discovery Life’s SHOCK TRAUMA: EDGE OF LIFE, premiering Friday, January 1st at 10/9c. The unscripted docudrama tells the parallel stories of doctors, nurses and patients at the world-renowned R Adam’s Cowley Shock Trauma Center on University of Maryland’s Baltimore campus.  With a 97-percent survival rate and more than 8,000 patients annually (compared to the typical 3,000 per year) it is the best trauma center in the country. Only the most critically-injured patients in Maryland are transported here, and with very minute that passes the chances of irreversible damage increases.

SHOCK TRAUMA: EDGE OF LIFE opens the world of the country’s best trauma center – where the doctors and nurses are always ready and in position to save lives. Capturing life’s unexpected circumstances, the Shock Trauma Center treats gunshot wounds, unconscious and unresponsive car crash patients and treats victims from the violent Baltimore protests.

In the premiere episode, viewers meet Evan who rolls his ATV on the ice, Robert who suffers from severe frostbite and may risk amputating his hand, and Joe, who was mangled by a snow blower and loses consciousness after falling down the stairs. With possible multi-organ trauma, the team at the Shock Trauma Center race to save their patients’ lives.

SHOCK TRAUMA: EDGE OF LIFE is produced by MedSchool Maryland Productions for Discovery Life.
