Actress and Bestselling Author Danica McKellar Joins Science Channel's BRINK as Lead Math Correspondent

Innovative Science Authors and Journalists Garth Sundem, Jonah Lehrer, Joshua Davis, Dr. Kirsten Sanford and Dr. Dwight Williams Also Join Weekly Series

February 5, 2009

(Silver Spring, Md.) – Science Channel announced today the addition of Danica McKellar and several other prominent authors and journalists to a growing stable of science experts on the network’s innovative flagship series BRINK. Known predominantly for her roles as Winnie Cooper on “The Wonder Years” and as Elsie Snuffin on “The West Wing,” McKellar will share her passion for and knowledge of mathematical principles with the BRINK audience. McKellar graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, where she co-authored a math proof, and has written two New York Times bestselling books on the subject (“Math Doesn’t Suck” and “Kiss My Math”). Friday, February 6 on BRINK (10 PM ET/PT), McKellar reveals a great way to help viewers convert from metric to imperial measurement.

During special segments on BRINK, the correspondents will join host Josh Zepps to provide viewers with valuable perspective on current discoveries, scientific developments, news or other topics for the weekly program. Also included in the stable of correspondents are several other well-known science enthusiasts: humor, math and general geek culture writer Garth Sundem (“Geek Logik: 50 Foolproof Equations for Everyday Life” and the upcoming “The Geek’s Guide to World Domination”); Seed magazine editor at large and author Jonah Lehrer (“How We Decide” and “Proust Was a Neuroscientist”); popular science journalist and author Joshua Davis (“The Underdog”); neurophysiology research scientist and host of the “This Week In Science” radio program Dr. Kirsten Sanford; and Dr. Dwight L. Williams, former Chief Engineer/Principal Nuclear Physicist in the U.S. Department of Defense and research affiliate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

BRINK is the next-generation source of interactive science information on television and on the web. Airing weekly on Fridays at 10 PM the series explores the people who are on the brink of changing our lives, and also includes content generated from scientists, organizations, universities and viewers worldwide.

BRINK provides viewers with a clear understanding of the impact and relevance science has in our lives today, and offers significant insights into how science may profoundly change our lives tomorrow. Each half-hour episode combines short-form reports on the latest global science news with vital interviews with prominent scientists. BRINK’s innovative format will also include unusual segments covering a range of subjects from avant-garde research to ordinary people building their own space craft.

BRINK’s reach extends beyond the border of television with a comprehensive, fully integrated presence on sciencechannel.com. Here viewers can watch extended interviews, interact via science blogs, upload and view user generated videos, talk to Zepps and other correspondents, take quizzes and explore additional research materials.

BRINK is produced by CBS Eye Too Productions. Stewart Kasloff is executive producer for CBS EYE Too Productions and John Grassie is executive producer for Science Channel.
