TLC TO PREMIERE NEW DOCUMENTARY "LET'S TALK ABOUT SEX"

 

Los Angeles, CA - TLC is set to premiere the hour-long documentary LET'S TALK ABOUT SEX on Saturday April 9, 2011 at 10/9c. Directed by James Houston, the special takes a fresh, raw, and confronting look at attitudes towards sex and sexuality among America's youth, as well as the differences between Europe and America when it comes to adolescent sexuality.

 

Every day, 10,000 young Americans catch a sexually transmitted disease, 2400 young girls get pregnant, and 55 young people are infected with HIV. Traveling through the US, the Australian-born Houston goes on a journey to understand common trends with sex and sexuality, and profiles young Americans who share their personal perspectives, including:

  • Ashley, a high school prom queen from Atlanta GA. After she and her friends took a virginity pledge at the age of 15, six girls became pregnant. Ashley is now in a sexually active relationship.
  • Jon, a college sophomore from Amherst MA, currently studying in Los Angeles, serves as a guide to college "hook up" culture.
  • Grant and Max, both from Phoenix AZ. Grant is a microbiology researcher. Max contracted the HIV virus from having unprotected sex at the age of 17. They currently reside in Baltimore where Max is enrolled in law school.
  • At a high school for pregnant teens in Los Angeles, young girls are contemplating motherhood.
  • In Washington, D.C., where HIV infection rates rival those in several African countries, community outreach workers are trying to save lives.

 

Using revealing interviews, modern-day statistics and archival materials, LET'S TALK ABOUT SEX paints a picture of American youth navigating the minefield of living in a sexualized culture.
