OIL DISASTER: A RACE AGAINST TIMEE - an exclusive, behind-the-scenes documentary on the efforts to stop the oil leaking at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico following the blast aboard BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig.  The explosion on April 20th 2010, 84 kilometres off the coast of the state of Louisiana, has resulted in the worst environmental catastrophe in American history.

The oil spill originates from a deepwater wellhead 1,500m below the ocean surface and has seen hundreds of millions of gallons of oil flow into the ocean.  Experts predict that it is likely to go down in history as one of the largest oil spills the world has ever seen.  The explosion killed 11 people and injured 17 others; 115 crew members survived without serious injury.

OIL DISASTER: A RACE AGAINST TIME features exclusive access to the BP crisis centre in Houston, Texas, as the workers who are rarely seen battle to take control of the spill.  It also analyses the engineering efforts and the technology being deployed in a desperate mission to stop the gushing oil.

Highlights in this documentary:

·       Eyewitness accounts and interviews with senior BP executives, US Coastguard and experts in engineering and technology.

·       Unrivalled access to the BP crisis centre, and the hive from which all remotely operated underwater vehicle efforts were directed.

·       Exclusive footage of the rig explosion itself, shot by a deckhand aboard a nearby supply ship that responded to the blast – never before released.
