(Silver Spring, MD, June 12, 2013) - Animal Planet announces the promotion of Jason Carey to senior vice president of production. Carey, who has been with the network since 2006, has led Animal Planet's production department for five years overseeing production of innovative, "Surprisingly Human" television series for the network. In that time, Animal Planet has become a top-25, ad-supported cable network with Persons 25-54 and finished May as a top-15 network for Men. Under Carey's leadership, the production department oversaw production of nine programs that have averaged more than one million viewers year to date. Carey also helmed the groundbreaking, Emmy-nominated series Whale Wars for the network and most recently Treehouse Masters, which debuted with 1.3 million P2+ viewers and grew to 1.5 million P2+ viewers in its second episode.

"Jason is an enormously talented story-teller, collaborative, creative partner and a great leader," says Marjorie Kaplan, president and general manager of Animal Planet. "His deep experience in production, from being his start as a freelancer in LA and having done every production job possible, has enabled Jason to foster the kind of creative relationships with production companies that result in inspiring and imaginative work. We couldn't be more delighted to recognize his talents with this promotion."

Prior to joining Animal Planet, Carey was a Los Angeles-based freelance writer, director and producer for more than a decade and crafted programming for HBO, Showtime, CBS, NBC, TBS, VH-1 and Disney Channel. With such widespread experience and relationships, Carey is highly respected among the production community as a trusted partner, stalwart communicator and valuable network leader.
