PUPPY BOWL XVII TAKES THE GRIDIRON TO DELIVER DOUBLE-DIGIT YEAR OVER YEAR RATINGS AND VIEWERSHIP GAINS

PUPPY BOWL XVII delivered double-digit year over year ratings gains for its linear premiere on Animal Planet among Adults 25-54 (1.11) in L+SD on Sunday, Feb. 7 from 2-5PM ET, up +14% from last year’s Puppy Bowl XVI (0.97) on Feb. 2, 2020*. This ties Puppy Bowl XIII in 2017 as the third highest rated Puppy Bowl ever. PUPPY BOWL XVII also averaged 2.1m Total Viewers P2+, up +14% from last year’s game (1.9m). Additionally, the PUPPY BOWL XVII pre-game from 1-2PM ET was up +9% in ratings from last year's pre-game show (0.36 vs. 0.33) among Adults 25-54. 

PUPPY BOWL XVII was the #1 most social non-sports related program across all of TV in daytime and primetime on Sunday. With 382.1k total interactions across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & YouTube, the program was up +69% and total social video views were up +917% from last year.**

Additional PUPPY BOWL XVII ratings wins included Women 25-54, up a whopping +20% vs. last year’s game (1.32 vs. 1.10), and Men 25-54 up +5% (0.88 vs. 0.84); other double-digit ratings gains for this year’s game vs. last year include Adults 18-49 (+18%) Women 18-49 (+21%), Men 18-49 up (+17%) and Kids 2-11 (+20%). 

PUPPY BOWL XVII was the #1 cable telecast of the day among Total Viewers P2+, Adults and Women 25-54, Adults and Women 18-49 and Kids 2-11, no exclusions. The game drove Animal Planet to #1 in its time period on cable among Adults, Men and Women across key demos, including 25-54, 18-49, 12-17, 2-11 and Total Viewers P2+, no exclusions. During the broadcast, #PuppyBowl also a top trending topic on Twitter.

PUPPY BOWL XVII was hosted by Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg with ESPN’s Monday Night Football play- by- play announcer Steve Levy and SportsCenter host Sage Steele providing puppy analysis throughout the game. Team Ruff defeated Team Fluff in a final score of 73-69 to win PUPPY BOWL XVII and take home the “Lombarky” trophy. Marshall, a Boston terrier pup player, was named both "Most Valuable Puppy” (MVP) of PUPPY BOWL XVII and the winner of the “Pupularity Playoff” bracket on PuppyBowl.com. And Chunky Monkey the Chow Chow, Irish Red and White Setter puppy player, was unofficially named MVN – Most Valuable Napper.
