ANIMAL PLANET TAKES AUDIENCES BEHIND THE SCENES ON WOLF RESCUE AND REHABILITATION MISSIONS WITH COMBAT VETERANS IN ALL-NEW SERIES “WOLVES AND WARRIORS”

-WOLVES AND WARRIORS Premieres Sat. Sept. 1 at 10PM ET/PT-

Few other animals inspire such passion, excitement and fear as the Wolf. They’re mysterious, intelligent, protective and loyal, and Animal Planet’s all-new series spotlights one group’s unique mission to rescue and care for these creatures. WOLVES AND WARRIORS follows U.S. Navy veteran Matt Simmons and Dr. Lorin Lindner, the husband and wife team behind Lockwood Animal Rescue Center (LARC), a private sanctuary that rescues wolves and wolf-dog hybrids whose lives are threatened by poachers, illegal breeders and other perils. Episodes document high risk rescues and rehabilitation efforts undertaken by Matt and Lorin, who are joined by combat veterans working to overcome the traumas of war. WOLVES AND WARRIORS premieres Sat., Sept. 1 at 10PM ET/PT.

LARC employs a team of veterans who help rescue and care for the wolves as a way of recovering from the anguish they’ve experienced. For Matt, Lorin and the team, every mission is critical – from perilous wolf rescues, to investigations into underground fur-farms – and they all provide opportunities for combat veterans to heal and find their place in civilian society.

WOLVES AND WARRIORS reveals a rare glimpse at LARC’s rescue and rehabilitation work, including never before seen footage of wolf rescues.  The series also offers an intimate look at the behavior of wolves in the sanctuary, as they find their packs and court their mates. Alongside new members of Matt and Lorin’s team, viewers will learn every wolf’s name and discover that each has its own unique and quirky personality.

In the series premiere, Matt and the team travel to rescue a grey wolf named Sadira from a backyard in Oregon, and later await the outcome of her life-or-death medical procedure. Viewers also meet the veterans that comprise the LARC team – including new members – many of whom hope working at LARC will help them manage their PTSD.

Later this season, LARC assists in the evacuation of a California sanctuary when its threatened by wildfire, and combats wolf poaching in the forests of Montana in a program called “Operation Wolfguard."

Animal Planet’s social media efforts across Facebook and Twitter via @AnimalPlanet will include original content that will explore how the wolves and veterans work together, little known facts about wolves, and how wolves and veterans are similar and suited for cross-species therapy, among other subjects. Full episodes of WOLVES AND WARRIORS will also be available during the season on the Animal Planet GO app which allows viewers to catch up on episodes of their favorite Animal Planet shows, anytime, anywhere.

WOLVES AND WARRIORS is produced for Animal Planet by Leftfield Pictures where Gretchen Palek, Shawn Witt, Jason Carey, Dave Luce and Justin Comins serve as executive producers. For Animal Planet, Keith Hoffman is executive producer and Sarah Russell is producer.
